Uganda Cranes forward,Farouk Miya scored a magnificent goal as Uganda defeated Congo Brazzaville 1-0 in Saturday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.
The encounter which has much significant impact in the group considering the fact that Cranes forced Ghana to a draw in past encounter, saw the home team dominating possession for the entire part of the match.
In the 17th minute, Miya gave the fans something to cheer about with a spectacular shot that went straight into the back of the Congo Brazzavilles net for Cranes only goal of the game.
Uganda were hit by a scare in minutes before half an hour mark when Murshid Jjuuko clashed heavily with opponent during a Congo corner kick that saw Jjuuko taken off the pitch with his place taken by Luwagga Kizito
Cranes players lost scoring opportunities with most culpable was Goffrey Massa and Michael Azira who failed to open the floodgate of goals in the first half as their attempted shot went wide the post.
The best chance for the visitors came with six minutes left to play coming up from a goalmouth melee with Dzon Delagae shot nearly levveling the matter drew with keeper Ondongkara making a fine save after the ball was headed off the line.
The victory saw Uganda ascend aloft of Group E in the 2018 FIFA Wold Cup qualifier.
Uganda next game in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers will be against Eygpt in late August of 2017 away in Cairo.
