Mohamed Salah was injured playing for his Egyptian National Team’s 4-1 win over Swaziland on Friday evening. The injury was bad enough to see Liverpool’s   star striker limp off the field before the match finished, but just how bad is the injury?

Initial reports suggested that the injury was just a “muscle strain.” But, reports today say that Salah is returning to Liverpool to undergo further testing under club supervision.

Egypt’s FA said in a statement: “Javier Aguirre has allowed Salah to return to his club and he will not participate against Swaziland next Tuesday to give him time to recover. Mohamed Salah had complained during yesterday’s match versus Swaziland about stress in his muscle He was medically examined and underwent an X-ray post-game. Following communication with Liverpool’s medical staff, it was determined the player would be unable to player in the next match.”

Egypt assistant coach Hany Ramzy told Bein Sports: “The initial diagnosis, according to the team doctor, is a strong muscle strain. It is not a tear. I think it is not serious.”

It still does not appear that the injury is serious enough for long term concern, but it might be a good thing that Salah sit out his international duties to get healthy for Liverpool’s match following the break against Huddersfield. The club appears to be taking extra measures to preserve Salah’s fitness.
