Senegalese international and Newcastle midfielder Mohammed Diame has retired from international football.

In an official statement, the Lions of Teranga midfield stalwart said he believed he was no longer one of the players in better shape to do duty for his county and therefore opted to fully concentrate on his club career.

“I believe that there are now 23 Senegalese players in better shape.After much thought and consideration I feel that now is the appropriate time to focus fully on my club career.”

The 29 year former Hull City midfielder old made his debut for Senegal in March 2011 and made 36 appearances for the national team.
