Things seems to be looking up for Kenyan players if the latest moves abroad are anything to go by.
Kenya international and former Tusker FC defender David “Cheche” Ochieng move to North American second tier soccer league side New York Cosmos, which was reported on Wednesday 17, seems to have been the ice breaker, as two more deals followed, thick and fast.
Michael Olunga’s four-year deal move to Sweden top league side Djurgarden IF on the same day then hit the airwaves, silencing critics of Kenyan Premier League as a stagnant league, while giving hope to many youths who would like to travel a similar path to success, that yes Kenyan football can take you there.
The contract the former Gor Mahia striker inked is believed to have cost the Swedish side a cool Kshs 16M; and yes “The Engineer” will continue with his engineering studies at Stokholm University.
Another defender, 23-year old Aboud Omar, formerly of Bandari FC and Tusker competed what promises to be a good week with a switch from Greek football league outfit Panegialios to Bulgarian seven times league champions PFC Slavia Sofia yesterday (Thursday 18).
The three moves bring with them fresh hope in the game, even as Kenyans usher in a new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) office that has promised to lift the standards of the game.
We will keep an eye on former Mathare United defender Robinson Godwell Kamura who is out in Norway chasing his dreams.
