Morocco were held to a 0-0 draw away to Malawi in a dead-rubber 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Friday.
The Atlas Lions headed into the match having already booked their place at this year’s showpiece in Egypt, but have now confirmed their themselves as Group B winners.
The result moves Morocco up to 11 points in the group, three clear of Cameroon who host Comoros in Yaounde on Saturday. A draw will be enough to confirm the Indomitable Lions ticket to the continental tournament.
Morocco, though, will end top no matter the result in Cameroon, due to their superior head-to-head record over the defending AFCON champions.
The Flames of Malawi duly move up to five points, level with Comoros who would seal their ticket to Egypt if they are able to conjure a surprise result in West Africa this weekend.
Morocco have won the AFCON tournament on a single occasion, back in 1976 when the competition was hosted in Ethiopia.
