Wydad Casablanca will target a win as they welcome Egyptian side Al Ahly for their CAF Champions League, Group A clash on Wednesday night at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat.
Kick-off is at 8:30pm.
The Rouges et Blancs are on a roll in the competition as they have collected seven points thus far and are on the verge of booking a spot in the knockout stages.
John Tusack’s side currently top the group with seven points having beaten Zambian side ZESCO United and ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast while coming out with a point against the Red Devils two weeks ago.
However, for this tie, the hosts will want to do everything to bag the full three points and seal a spot in the semifinals considering their home advantage.
Tusack is a confident man and will just have to sharpen the minds of his charges including the likes of Walid El Karti to spearhead their attack and send Ahly packing.
Looking at the visitors, the eight-time CAF Champions League winners are not the same team that was once feared and their campaign has not been convincing so far.
Ahly has been ruled out by some in the football fraternity as they occupy the bottom of the group with one point next to their name.
They have lost twice to the Zesco and Mimosas while getting a draw against Wydad.
Although they remain confident of reaching the semifinals, it will not be an easy task to beat Wydad at home.
A victory for them will see them taking the third spot with four points, but that will all depend on the result between Zesco and Mimosas on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the match, skipper Hossam Ghaly said they can reach the semifinals of the biggest continental showpiece.
“The Wydad match will be a difficult one. The Ahly players need to fully concentrate to achieve a positive result that keeps our hopes alive of continuing our Champions League campaign,” said Ghaly.
“The chance of reaching the semifinals is difficult but not impossible. Ahly players realise this fact and refuse to give up as they are determined to get a positive result in Morocco.
“We have enough experience to play away under the pressure of our opponents’ fans.”
