Mtibwa sugar continued with their fine preseason form as they beat Tanzanian giants and league leaders Simba 2:1 in a friendly match played at the Azam complex in Chamazi.
Simba head coach Joseph Omog brought in a star studded squad to the match with Ghanaian duo of goalkeeper Daniel Agyei and midfielder James Kotei earning starting berths.
Mtibwa broke the deadlock early in the starting minutes of the match courtesy of a Stahmili Mbonde strike after dribbling past the Simba defenders. The sugar men pilled more misery to Simba when they added the second goal in the 34th minute through their talisman Jaffari Salim.
Former Mtibwa sugar midfielder Mohammed Ibrahim came back to haunt his former employers when he pulled one back for Simba in the 36th minute.
Simba squandered a glorious opportunity to level the scoring in the 88th minute when Mtibwa skipper Shaaban Nditi brought down Simba forward Ibrahim Ajib in the box but Janvier Bokungu’s penalty hit the crossbar.
The defeat to Mtibwa puts a spanner in the works to the Cameroonian tactician preparation ahead of the second leg of the Vodacom premier league.
