Mike Mutebi, the Uganda Premier League (UPL) coach with defending champions KCCA feels the UPL title race will go down to a fight among the top six sides at the moment.
For a long time many UPL followers had deemed the championship to be a two horse race but Mutebi says that may no longer the case as the league has so far attracted genuine contenders.
He expressed his feeling that of the top six sides, SC Villa start-stops could be a threat in fight for top honours, while adding that Vipers could cause a real scare going by their recent surge upwards.
“The gap between us and the sixth placed team is so narrow that the table leadership can change in an instant. We must collect as many points as we can before the league gets to a tight bend that decides the winner,” says Mutebi, the reigning league best coach in an interview with the club portal.
He adds that if it were a two-horse race like it was for the larger part of last season between KCCA and Vipers, his players would have become complacent.
“We have inculcated it in the players that every game they play henceforth matters a lot. We are targeting getting back to winning ways against Police FC on Friday but we know it won’t be a stroll in the park,” Mutebi stressed.
KCCA top the standings with 19 points, Vipers SC is second with 19 with goal diffrence seperating them with leaders then Soana are third with 16 points, SC Villa and URA FC follow, all with 15 points and Bright Stars is sixth with 13 after registering a run of three unbeaten games.
