Deon Hotto’s late header gave Namibia a stunning 1-0 victory over Tunisia in a Group E opener played at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Everything was pointing to a win for the Carthage Eagles but it was the Brave Warriors who made history by getting their first ever win at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Led by the captain Peter Shalulile, the Southern African nation held their own against one of Africa’s finest footballing Nations ranked 3rd on the continent.
Tunisia suffered a blow early in the game with Haythem Jouini coming on to replace Taha Khenissi because of an injury.
Youssef Msakni was a quiet most of the match. He almost got onto the scoresheet when brought out a big save from Kazapua through a header.
It was Hotto who found the winner with a header of his own from a Bethuel Muzeu cross. Namibia thought they had a second moments later but it was flagged for Offside with VAR confirming the on-field decision.
The Brave Warriors stealing victory at the very death to send a warning to the rest of the group.
