Namibia has paid tribute to Brave Warriors superfan Robbie Savage who died in the early morning hours of Thursday in the Katutura State Hospital.
The 50-year-old supporter had been in hospital for two months following a mild stroke.
According to reports,before his death Robbie was discharged from hospital on Tuesday, but was readmitted again where he succumbed to his illnes.
Africa as whole is mourning a man who was most admired and adored because of the love he had for football and sport in general.
He has been described by many as a true legendary supporter who never wavered to choose what his heart really desired.
Robbie was present when Namibia made their first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations in 1998 in Burkina Faso.
Robbie also accompanied the team to the 2008 finals in Ghana in the Namibia’s second apperance at the continetal showpiece.
Current Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Manetti described the fallen Robbie as a great friend whom they shared a lot.
“We grew up in the same neighbourhood, Khomasdal. He was older than me, and he would always make sure he told people that ‘Is my laaitie. I remember one day when he insisted on wearing my jersey number (10), and he would jump up and down shouting, ‘Come on Namibia!’, and promoting me. That I will forever remember about him.”
Brave Warriors captain Ronald Ketjijere, whose club side African Stars had Robbie as head mascot, also paid tribute to the fallen fan.
“I remember he never liked Black Africa players in the national team. There was never a dull moment with him, whether he was upset or happy, that was Robson for us”,” Ketjijere said.
Robbie will be burried on Friday 28th July in his native township of Khomasdal with the service held at the Catholic Church early in the morning.
