Week 20 Recap

An uninspiring first half at Nchanga Stadium ended 1-0 in favour of Zesco United with another goal from Jesse Were who had earlier extended his Zesco United stay for another two years.

The second period exploded into life but both teams were blunt upfront with nothing really to change the score board.

United’s performance was something of a milestone, but they should be thinking they would have increased the tally of that 1-0 penalty spot by Were who became second league top scorer behind Chris Mugalu this season.

Forest Rangers were somewhat fortunate to earn any points at home to Lumwana Radiants but nevertheless earned an important win.

Lumwana Radiants put in a strong showing and created multiple chances though the players lacked the cutting edge to make Forest pay and were ultimately punished when Kobe Chipeta finished from close range early on in the second half.

Lumwana Radiants followers believed it was a missed opportunity for Radiants, but the neutrals who watched the game were impressed with their display and felt it boded well for their hopes of doing something special this season under Zeddy Sailet.

In the other Saturday kick-off in Kitwe, the pressure was on Power Dynamos to narrow the five-point gap Napsa Stars were enjoying and they looked to be crumbling under the pressure when Lusaka Dynamos deservedly settled well in the first half after a serious attack in the first minutes by the home team.

However, despite a poor showing, Power Dynamos took a lead in the second half to launch a dramatic lead in the middle stages of the half as Benson Sakala scored a fantastic goal—the first of the season for him after a Kelvin Kampamba free kick.

In Choma goals from Greenwell Witika and Venecious Mapande saw the Eagles get three points at home to City of Lusaka.

Mufulira Wanderers poor run of form continued as they slipped to a 1-1 draw after leading at home to Green Buffaloes.

Nchanga Rangers gave themselves further hope of survival with a crucial point at home to league leaders NAPSA in a game they will think they could have easily won.

Red Arrows produced a dogged display to keep out ZANACO when they met at Nkoloma Stadium. The defending champions threw everything at the Airmen but were unable to find a way through their resilient defending.
This was the third draw Zanaco were enduring in the last six games. ZANACO will have to change these draws into victories if they are to defend the title they won in 2016. A trip to Woodlands in Week 9 rescheduled game in the mid week could prove difficult, but facing a City of Lusaka team that doesn’t inspire at the moment should see them return to winning ways.

A total of 13 goals were scored in week 20 and only one team won away in the name of Zesco to Blades.
Three home teams picked victories in Green Eagles, Buildcon and Forest Rangers.
