Nigeria are through to the Semifinals of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations after a narrow 1-0 victory against Angola in an explosive match played at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Friday.
Ademola Lookman’s goal just before half-time was all that the Super Eagles needed to overcome a stubborn Palancas Negras side.
Angola started brightly with Mabululu causing havoc in the Nigeria defense. He came close to putting Angola in the lead but his close range effort was palmed away for a corner.
Nigeria took the lead through Ademola Lookman finishing well from a Moses Simon cutback to get his third of the tournament.
Victor Osimhen was a constant threat for the Nigerian team as well. His aerial threat came into play with his header saved by Signori Dominique.
Osimhen thought he had scored a second for Nigeria when he headed in but the goal was cancelled by VAR for offside.
Salvador was very unlucky not to find the equalizer for Angola with his effort coming off the post.
Nigeria edged it in the end and held on to qualify for the Semifinals.
