Nigeria have qualified to the round of 16 after a 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau in a tightly Group A match played at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Monday.
Fresh from beating hosts Côte d’Ivoire Nigeria knew that a victory over the Djurtus will guarantee them a place in the Knockout Phase.
Guinea-Bissau on the other hand were looking to bow out on a high having lost their first two matches in the Group.
Nigeria went ahead in the 36 minute via an own goal from the Guinea-Bissau defender Opa Sangante in the 36th minute.
Jose Peseiro’s men went into the halftime break leading the Guinea-Bissau side.
The Super Eagles were in control of the match throughout. There were no goals recorded in the second half.
A 1-0 victory was enough for the three times African Champions to qualify for the round of 16 in second place behind Equatorial Guinea with 7 points.
Guinea-Bissau leave the competition with no points.
