League leaders Nkana came from behind to draw with crosstown rivals Power Dynamos 1-1 in the much anticipated Kitwe derby played at Nkana stadium on Saturday 14 May 2016.
In a match regarded as the biggest fixture in the Zambian Super Division, there was a lot of vibe in the build up and in the end, fans were treated to an enthralling game.
The magnitude of this game was further amplified by the presence of President Edgar Lungu among the fans who had filled Nkana stadium.
The match was befitting a derby as it was beamed to millions of viewers across the African continent on Television.
Dynamos took the lead in the 40th minute through Kennedy Mudenda after meeting a sweet cross to put the ball in the net in the 18 yard box. The yellow side of Kitwe went into the break with a 1 nil advantage over their bitter rivals.
Nkana came back fighting, perhaps in response to Agrey Chiyangi’s halftime team talk. Jacob Ngulube equalised for Nkana in the 62nd minute after jumping above everyone in the box to head past Power goal keeper Allan Chibwe.
Nkana went in search of a winner but in the end both teams shared the spoils.
A point was enough for Nkana to stay top of the league on 20 points but they will drop to second position if Zesco win their Sunday game against Lusaka Tigers.
