League leaders Nkana FC suffered their first loss of the season on saturday when Green Buffaloes shocked them with a 3-1 result at Independence stadium in their week 9 match.
Nkana had not lost in its previous 7 league games winning 6 and drawing one.
Nkana was looking for revenge after suffering a 2-1 loss in Lusaka last season and the match began with Buffaloes piling pressure in the first five minutes and forcing a number of corners.
Buffaloes took the lead in the 16th minute when Sebastien Mwansa bent a cornner which hit the post and then bounced off Christopher Munthali as he scored an own goal to give Green Buffalos a 1-0 lead.
Buffaloes. Goal gave them the much needed momentum and they continued to attack and in the 22nd minute it paid off as Lottie Phiri’s shot which bounced off the cross bar was acrobatically put in by Christopher Katongo who scored an overhead kick to make it two for GBFC .
Nkana’s woes would then deepen as they would be reduced to ten men when Scott Ngokene stomped on defender Steven Kabamba to get a redcard and Jacob Ngulube went off for substitute goalkeeper CharlesMweemba.
Buffalos added a third in 4 minutes of added time when a Diamond Chikwewe cross went past everyone and into the net leaving Nkana with a mountain to climb.
Steven Kabamba got a second booking and was sent off as both teams now had ten men on the pitch and went
into halftime.
Green Buffaloes continued as the the stronger side of the two until their goalkeeper Geoffrey Silavwe caught the ball and entered with it into the net after he was challenged by Walter Bwalya to concede and bring the game to 3-1as the goal deficit was reduced to two.
Despite the goal Nkana failed to get a hold on the match and Buffaloes continued their dominance in the late minutes of the match with Sebastian missing a late chance as Buffaloes won 3-1. Nkana stay in first place on 19 points while Green Buffaloes move to third on 14 points.
