Uganda Coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has ascribed Friday’s 1-1 draw against Ghana, in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Tamale, to “hard work.”

“It’s a clear language of facts that cannot be accident but proof of our hard work,”
Micho said.

The East Africans, seen as underdogs, showed resilience against the four-time World Cup qualifiers under hot conditions in the Northern Ghana capital.

The gap between the two in terms of head to head record is worlds apart but the latest trends show a tremendous improvement on the side of the Cranes, something the Serbian was quick to point out,

“In our last three outings against Ghana, we recorded two draws in Kumasi and Tamale and beat them at home in Kampala,”

He also stressed the team’s improved away record, “Bold truth is, Cranes’ last five away competitive matches’ record away stands at; Comoros 0-1, Burkina Faso 1-0 (via penalty), Botswana 1-2, Ghana 0-0, it can’t be accident.”

Saturday’s clash was the 13th between the two in all competitions with Ghana winning 8 times – Uganda once with four draws registered.

The former Orlando Pirates and St. George boss singled out Mamelodi Sundowns’ keeper Dennis Onyango who performed superbly well to deny Black Stars’ lethal attack that had Andrew Ayew and Asamoah Gyan – who was chasing his 49th international goal.

“I’m very proud of our team headed by day Captain Onyaongo. It was a die like a man or stay low as a lamb situation. It’s better to be a lion for a day than a sheep all your life.” He acknowledged their bravery.

He confirmed they will play a friendly match on November 8 before they host Congo Brazzaville in the next qualifier at Namboole Stadium.
