FKF’s demand for an 18-team Kenyan Premier League this season has been met with a resounding NO by the league managing body KPL Limited.
In a meeting between the top tier league managers and the new FKF office lead by President Nick Mwendwa this morning, KPL asked the federation to respect an MOU signed last year which supported wide consultations between the two parties for at least a year before a new league season, before such decisions can be considered or effected.
“We have told him straight to his face that it will not be possible at this time,” A source within KPL told dimbasports.
“All we want is for him to respect the MOU. We are not against an 18-team league, but it cannot happen overnight.”
Nick yesterday night made it clear during a football magazine show on Supersport that FKF is pro expansion of the league to 18 teams from current 16, something he was keen to see happen this season.
“There is no two ways about it, however the timing, the league will be expanded to 18-teams.” Nick said.
He however added that the league kickoff will go on as was planned this weekend, as they look for away out on the matter.
The additional two teams are believed to be Zoo Kericho and his own Kariobangi Sharks.
