Abia Warriors earned their biggest win of the abridged 2018/2019 NPFL season with an emphatic 3-0 thrashing of FC Ifeanyi Ubah in Thursday’s matchday-18 game in Umuahia to boost their fight against relegation.
Atitola Salami Tunde headed the home side in front 25 minutes into the high tempo clash. Ibrahim Olawoyi added a second six minutes into the second period, while Shedrack Asiegbu completed the rout with a super strike with 20 minutes left on the clock.
It proved enough to help the home side complete an Oriental Derby double over the Capital Oil and Gas side and set the tone for a possible league safety.
They are now 10th on the log with four matches remaining in the fixtures.
Emmanuel Deutsch, Technical Adviser of the struggling Abia Warriors told completesports.com that they would fight till the end.
“Its an important win for us today. There are still four games to be played, meaning 12 points to be played for.
“Anything can still happen. We’ll fight till the end. The gap between the teams on the table is not much so we keep pushing till the end hoping we can get it,” Deutsch said.
Thursday’s win was the first time Abia Warriors would score three unreplied goals this term.
