Fresh from relegation in the Nigerian professional football league. Shooting stars FC of Ibadan as part of their overhaul, have today announced that they have released 20 out of the 40 players they registered for the just concluded 2016/2017 season.
According to the media officer of the team Mr Jubril Arowolo, he stated that the released players were evaluated on their performances and contribution to the team in the just concluded NPFL season. Shooting stars FC, a club with a lot of history have found themselves in a precarious situation which has eventually evicted the Ibadan based club from the league after finishing 17th on the log which was unable to guarantee their safety on the last day.
It is fair to say a club which holds the record of the biggest home defeat last season, a three nil trouncing by FC Ifeanyi Ubah deserves to shake up the team and sieve out the chaff after being relegated twice in 5 years.
The players released from the club has a high profile name in ex super Eagles beach soccer star Abu Azeez who leads the way out , others include Charles Tambe , Tope Olaifa, Promise Ebiaku, Olabisi Samuel, Samuelson Ovono, Suraj Sodiq, Moses James, Omotayo Adebogun, Ibrahim Salawu, Asiri Emmanuel and many others.
As part of the reconstruction, the team has also done well to retain the services of the captain of the side Seun Akinyemi, Michael Uweru, Abubakar Adamu, Kayode Bankole, Alaba Osawe, Omololu Waheed, Opeyemi Adetoyi, Oginni Olatunbosun, Ayobami Abiodun Jnr, Shile Ibrahim, Sunday Faleye, Jide Apena, Abayomi Adebayo and Rafiu Wasiu.
Others include Ajani Ibrahim, Shittu Taiwo, Isiaq Rafiu, Kunle Olukokun, Bode Daniel and Sherrif Sanda. Hopefully they get this decision right and come back stronger from the Nigerian National League.
