Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) and Walia Ibex’s coach Ashenafi Bekele have agreed to mutually part ways after a lengthy meeting Tuesday.

Under his underwhelming ten-month reign, Ashenafi, who had wanted to quit previously, managed only two wins against lowly ranked Djibouti and South Sudan.

EFF however kept him on the job for fear of entrenching the view that the president Juneidi Basha’s term has specialized in hiring and firing coaches at will without results to write home about.

Ashenafi’s last outing was regional CECAFA Senior Challenge in Kenya early this month where the Walias failed to make it out of the groups.

The coach, according to sources, has sealed a deal to become new coach of Ethiopian Premier League side Ethio-Electric on a two-year deal.

Ethiopia are still in contention for a slot in the AFCON 2019 in Cameroon despite losing their first qualifier against Ghana this year.

Their next match will be against Sierra Leone, who beat Kenya 2-1, in September 2018.
