Defending Sportpesa Premier League champions Gor Mahia moved three points closer to leaders Tusker with a well deserved 2-1 win over stubborn City Stars at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Midfielder Collins Okoth delivered the much awaited heart breaker in the last minute of play to animate a resigned “green army”

Earlier at Machakos Stadium, the Brewers who are chasing first title since 2012 were held to back to back draws by relegation threatened Sofapaka who forced them to a 1-1 draw.

K’Ogalo made clear their intentions from the blow of the first whistle, throwing everything in attack in hunt for the opener which came via defender Harun Shakava’s sweeping goal in the 22nd minute right from inside the danger area.

City’s response was quick and classic a minute later. Former Gor man Ezekiel Odera returned to haunt them, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to pass the ball to himself on the edge of the box before side stepping keeper Boniface Oluoch in a spectacular fashion and buying in the equalizer.

The match was tied at 1-1 at the interval and on resumption, Gor Coach Ze Maria pulled out worn-out Innocent Wafula as they stepped up search for the winner.

City employed the “bus parking” technique frustrating every attack coming their way until substitute, Enock Agenda delivered one of his trademark throw-ins, this time finding a lingering Okoth who flicked it in from close range to send Nyayo into a frenzy.

Gor are now placed second behind Tusker with 34 points while City ramains second from bottom with 13 points.
