An injury time goal by former Sony Sugar striker Moses Anita was the difference in Awendo. The Clinical goal at the death sent the miller’s rooted at the bottom of the Sport pesa premier League and condemned them to their second home defeat.
Sony Sugar who were missing their head coach Leonard Odipo ostensibly due to what was termed as time off had the assistant Salim Babu, a former international and player acting as the coach.
The match was delayed for more than fifteen minutes after the match officials rejected an earlier ambulance that was availed terming it insufficient to handle a SPL match, it forced the hosts to withdraw the Sony Sugar Medical Centre Ambulance and the County Government ambulance was instead provided.
The miller’s started on a high with raid after raid but Farouk Shikalo in the Muhoroni goal proved his worth making crucial saves.
After a goalless balanced first half with only Mohammed Hassans shot coupled with an Ochomo attempt, nothing seemed to trouble both Allan Owino in Sony goal and Farouk Shikalo on the Muhoroni goal.
The second half saw the hosts start on a high with Farouk Shikalo having it difficult to save attempts at his goal from Bonface Muchiri and Fredrick Onyango.
As the game progressed, Centre referee Andrew Juma had to send Muhoroni team manager out of the pitch.
With fans calling for the introduction of Robert Omunuk, coach Salim Ali brought in the Ugandan play maker for exhausted Mohammed Hassan, Omunuk’s presence added punch upfront. Muhoroni coach Jacob Omondi also brought in Nigerian Abbas Akinyemi.
Both teams had equal chances at goal but it was Sony sugar who were more wasteful upfront. Daniel Onyango who came in for Victor Asembeka missed a golden chance to put the miller’s ahead with Robert Omunuk’ crosses missing from target.
Perhaps the turning point of the game was the late withdrawal of Eugene Ochieng for Ugandan Hamidu Kwizera. The miller’s left back became porous with Moses Anita who came in for Dimonde Selenge easily moving making rides in search of the winning goal.
With just a minute of added time, former Sony Sugar striker Moses Arita scored a beauty of a goal past advancing Allan Owiny.
The loss leaves Sony Sugar at the bottom of the Sport pesa premier League with a point after losing the other four matches.
They next travel to Nairobi to meet wounded Rangers who lost 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz .
The other league matches played today saw Western Stima grab a crucial point in Nakuru from the soldiers Ulinzi while City Stars held defending champions Gor Mahia to a 2-2 at the Nyayo Stadium
