Michael Olunga handed Harambee Stars a 2-1 win over DR Congo in an international friendly match played at Machakos Stadium on Sunday evening.

Olunga popped up on the sixth minutes to net before adding another in second half to what could prove to be decisive goals for the East Africans in next month’s FIFA rankings.

Gael Kakuta pulled one back for DR Congo in the 63rd minute through a well taken free kick.

Jesse Were and Michael Olunga were sharp up front for the hosts, while Boniface Oluoch remained in goal for the defending Harambee Stars.

Veteran goalkeeper Joel Kiassumbua started between the sticks for the visitors,in a match played at a full capacity stadium.

John Makwatta and Paul Were were named on the bench for the improving East and Central Africa soccer giants.

The teams exchanged long range efforts in the early exchanges with Junior Kabananga shooting over the crossbar for the visitors and Jesse Were forcing Kiassumbua into a good save.

China based striker Michael Olunga then had a chance inside the opponents box to send a thunderous effort past diving Kiassumbua just six minutes after the start.

Harambee Stars continued to dominate proceedings with Wanyama in particular causing the Congolese defence all sorts of problems.

Stanely Okumbi made some instructions that made Kenya grow confidence bringing more attacking intent onto the pitch.
