Al Ahly defeated Al-Ragaa 2-1 at the Petrosport Stadium on Tuesday evening to take their tally to 39 points in third.
The Reds took the lead through Nigerian striker Peter Ebimobowei, before Amir Kaysar equalised for the Matrouh side only for substitute Saladin Said to find Mohamed Fathi’s net six minutes from time and thus seal a Red win.
Al Ahly XI: Sherif Ekramy; Bassem Ali, Saad Samir, Sherif Hazem, Hussein El-Sayed; Hossam Ghaly, Hossam Ashour (Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’; Mo’men Zakaria (Saladin Said), Abdullah El-Said; Emad Meteb, Peter Ebimobowei (Walid Soliman).
Al-Ragaa XI: Mohamed Fathi; Ali El-Arabi, Amr Nabil, Mahmoud Farag, Ahmed Deif, Amir Kaysar, Assem Salah, Mohamed Abdullah, Mohamed Magdy, Moatamed Mohsen, Emmanuel Odoi.
First half
Juan Carlos Garrido’s men were up and running after just 12 minutes when Peter Ebi’s looping finish found the net, much to the ecstasy of the Spaniard.
Ebi had the chance to double his tally and came really close to doing so, but his header slammed against the post.
The Matrouh outfit got their chance to equalise when Emmanuel Odoi was awarded a controversial penalty; Kaysar though made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-1.
Odoi wasted a glorious chance to put Samir Kamouna’s men in the lead when he went through on goal only to fluff his one-on-one with Sherif Ekramy.
The Reds were awarded a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the box, but Abdullah El-Said failed to place his shot on target.
Second half
Substitute Walid Soliman’s cross caused Mohamed Fathi some trouble, but the former Ismaily keeper saw it go over the bar.
Ethiopian international Saladin Said grabbed the winner towards the end of the second half when his header from close-range found the net.
Said should’ve had a brace late on, but his poorly placed one-on-one was easily saved by Fathi.
