Most south Africans believe that Maritzburg’s defender Brian Onyango is a Ugandan and cousin to Sundowns big keeper Denis Onyango.
It was one of the memorable moments at the Harry Gwele Stadium in Piertermaritzburg,kwazulu Natal when two Onyango’s from different countries came head to head in a PSL match.

The Kenyan international defender Brian Mandela Onyango scored a brilliant volley deep in added time,a consolation goal for his club Maritzburg United in their 2-3 loss against league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at their Harry Gwele stadium.
It was the other Onyango in Sundowns goal that was on the receiving end.
MHlompho Kekana put the visitors ahead in the 36th minute of the game before khama Billiat made it 2-0 in the 49th minute with a clinical finish from the right hand side.The league leaders were not finished yet as they added the third in the 64th minute to go up 0-3.
Maritzburg’s Evans Rusike reduced the defeciet in the 83rd minute before the Kenyan international scored the consolation but it was to late.
This was Onyango’s third goal for the club a fete that has eraned him interest from both Sundowns and Pirates.
Soccer Laduma was on 28th January quoted saying both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are both understood to be monitoring the situation of Maritzburg United defender, Brian Onyango.
After the match,Denis Onyango the ugandan number one congratulated Brian Onyango and this is what he had to say in his social media page
‘Being score by someone i share the same name was not what i wanted but it was agreat goal……but most important we got the three points but still stop of the log’ Denis Onyango posted on his facebook page .
