After a two day break from football, the games will resume on Friday. In view of that, the Afcon happens every two years, you could prefer to enjoy the games every other day of its three-week duration..
Besides, that’s impossible as the players need to refill their tanks ahead of the Round of 16 ties.
As such, after the two-day break from football, the games will resume on Friday, However, the break has allowed me time to relook at some of the best moments of the past two weeks.
I’m going to look out for some best moments that gotten supporters and spectators to stand and celebrate in the Group Stage of the Afcon. It might or might not be a full guide to the tournament as a whole.
Best Goal:
Goals are what make tournament. Goals are reason people visit the Stadia with hope of celebrating those moment that decide games. There were some crazy goals scored in the Group Stage but Kreptin Diatta’s volley for the Teranga Lions of Senegal against Tanzania stood out for me. The technique, precision and accuracy of the strike was top-notch.
Best Freekick:
This was as spectacular as they can ever get. Marco llaimaharitra’s freekick was so far outside that the Malagasy could be forgiven for not thinking there was any danger to it.
The Sporting Charleroi player struck it so powerfully over 20 yards that it simply flew past keeper Jonathan Nahimana.
Best Game:
There were so many entertaining matches in the group phase but I’ll opt for the Uganda 1-1 Zimbabwe at the Cairo International Stadium. This was fascinating from start to finish. It was a game of two halves – The Cranes dominated play in the first period and the Warriors in the second period with both missing a host of chances.
The atmosphere, cheers and jeers from their fans was terrific as it brought a tear to my eyes.
Best Team:
At the start of the tournament, many tipped Egypt and Morocco to win the tournament but so far both have been unconvincing. Talent-wise, there are a host of teams behind them.
But for me, the team of the tournament so far is The Fennecs of Algeria. Djamel Belmadi’s men have been absolutely phenomenal. Their dedication, passion, enthusiasm and spirit is second to none. Algeria were free scoring winning all their three matches convincingly and didn’t concede a single goal
Best fans:
This is a piece of cake. Isn’t it?. Obviously, the host Egypt are very loud. They understand the true meaning of supporting a team and giving your best in the stands.
