OPINION: Chembo deserves a shot at Zesco job

Zesco United stand in coach Tenant Chembo should be given a full time job at the club.

Chembo has clearly shown he is capable of leading the former champions back to where they belong and that is playing continental football again.

Team ya Ziko moved to within a point of Nkana in the race for second spot after their 1-0 win over Nakambala Leopards.

Substitute Ayo Oluwafemi scored the only goal of the match in the 32nd minute, two minutes after replacing Ben Adamah Banh, from a free kick won by Idriss Mbombo on the edge of Nakambala’s penalty area.

Zesco United moved to 66 points from 32 matches, having played a game less than Nkana who are on 67 points.

Chembo has also led Zesco United to glory in the Barclays Cup final beating FAZ Super League Champions Zanaco 1-0.

This alone speaks volumes of Chembo’s ability to continue from where George Lwandamina left.

However, Chembo faces stiff competition as an array of reputable coaches have expressed interest in managing Zesco United.

Former AFC Leopards coach Ivan Minnaert and Scottish born Frank Nuttal are both eyeing the vacant coaching role at the Zambian Club.
