Sony Sugar chairman Mr Paul Orato has said that the club is on the right track after managing to move out of the relegation spot to the ninth position of the sportpesa premier League

The no nonsense chairman said that he was at pain seeing the club lose matches and also termed the fans lack of patience on the technical bench led by Odipo at that time as unprofessional.

Speaking to Soka25east after their 2-0 win over City Stars at the Awendo Green stadium, the chairman said that Coach Odipo if given time could turn around the club together with his Deputy then Salim Babu.

” We started very badly and failed to win even home matches, at that time we had a plan that we make the coach settle with the team, know them well as we give them time. The fans could not accept anything less than a win. It was the pressure from fans that made Odipo resign”

The chairman had a plan of having Odipo remain as head coach and then send Salim Babu for training as a coach as required by KPL.

He says Salim Babu is a good coach and needs to get the required license.

Speaking on the mid season window, Orato said that they will reinforce the striking force teaming it their greatest undoing in the first leg. He says they will beef up the striking force and some additions as recommended by the technical bench.

He has also called on sponsors who would like to partner with the club that they are ready to negotiate.

“We have agreed with the company, our employers and owner of the club over any partnerships that may arise. We can now have sponsors coming on board. We could have a sponsor erecting a stand for our stadium or even a shirt sponsor”

“We have sent our proposals to companies like sportpesa and even betway. We need sponsors as this could help our team a lot and even motivate the players”

Sony Sugar is the only team from the greater south Nyanza that is playing in the top tier league in Kenya. They are wholly owned by giant Sugar company South Nyanza Sugar company Ltd, a state owned corporation.

The chairman went further to say that their budget does not allow them to get top players but again with the sponsors they can get them. He said big budgets made must pass through the the principal Secretary for approval making it harder to implement some of their plans.

He is also calling upon the county government of Migori under His excellency Governor Okoth Obado to also come on board and help the club and to fast track the completion of Migori stadium which can act as an alternative ground for them.

Sony Sugar won the 2006 Kenyan Premier League under player coach Francis Baraza with the squad that featured players like Kelvin Oluoch(currently with the team), Ali Abondo(now at Ajax, South Africa), Noah Abich(now with Mathare), Joakins Atudo(Rangers) etc.

They began this season’s league on a wrong foot losing at home to Leopards, Muhoroni but later on rediscovered their winning ways beating Thika,Sofapaka, Chemelil, and City Stars.
