Arsenal Ladies striker Asisat Oshoala was delighted with the Super Falcons ‘ 6-0 victory over Mali in Sunday’s Africa Womens Cup of Nations Group B opening match.
In a match played at Stade de Limbe in Cameroon,Oshoala played the full game scoring four goals, while Francisca Ondenga and Uchechi Sunday scored a goal each in the convincing win as Nigeria started their campaign to defend the trophy that they won in Namibia in 2014.
During post match interview the Nigeria forward expressed her satisfaction with the results:
“This is just the first match and our approach was not to concede in the first 20 minutes. When we went to the dressing room, we came back stronger in the second half and did better.
“Basically it is not about Asisat Oshoala, rather the whole Nigerian team. I did not come with a target in mind to win the Most Valuable Player or the top scorer, rather to make my country (Nigeria) proud. And also to show the rest of Africa that we are still around and this is the only way to make that statement.
Nigeria will meet Ghana tommorrow before taking on Harambee Starlets on Saturday 26th November as they look to go past group stages.
