By Bonface Osano,
Former AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia and Kenya’s Harambee Stars custodian Mathew Ottamax is a man well known for his flamboyance in his heydays as one of the top keepers not only in Kenya but also in East Africa.
On the downside with the talent came the heavy burden of Alcoholism developed after he ended his football career a habit that has been well documented, time and time again he has checked in and out of rehab centers in this long journey to recovery with minimum success.
However, ever since he joined Gor Mahia technical bench mid last season as goalkeeper trainer, he has renewed his desire to quit and remain focused by trying to conquer what he believes is one of his greatest challenges,
In a facebook post that would best describe his fight Ottamax today posted “Coping well since last Sunday without it (alcohol), hope it continues this way…the shaking has subsided!”
It is highly commendable to note that he is equally overcoming the shaking which is a withdrawal symptom, a great stride towards complete recovery.
The fact that he always come out to share his experiences is a true indicator of a man who wants to leave a legacy, and to educate young upcoming footballers on the dangers of overindulgence in alcohol, both in their present lives and long after they hang their boots.
At Soka25east.com we standby one of Kenya’s finest shot stopper and wish him full recovery.
