The well travelled Paul Put is set to be appointed the new coach of Kenya after being recommended by the technical committee of the Football Kenya Federation.
According to a source close to the federation the committee was impressed with Put’s profile and current activities for the former Gambia and Burkina Faso coach.
“He was very positive, showed great interest in the job and is willing to work with indigenous Kenyan coaches and believes Harambee Stars can qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, which is very important to the FKF,”said the source.
Put,61,is the current manager of USM Alger and has also managed Belgian sides Geel, Lokeren and Lierse. He also guided Burkina Faso to the finals of the 2013 African Cup of Nations and is set to sign a two-year contract with FKF with the fate of current coach Stanely Okumbi remaining unknown.
The Belgium national was once handed a three-year suspension in 2007 by the Belgian football union for his alleged involvement in the Zheyun Ye match-fixing scandal.
Kenya has never qualified for the Fifa World Cup and last played in AFCON thirteen years ago.
