Bidvest Wits forward Phakamani Mahlambi will travel to Portugal this week for trials with unnamed club.
The 19-year-old player was reported to be heading to France last year but the deal hit a snag after he got a career-threatening injury in the middle of the season.
According to Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt, the youngster will spend three weeks in Portugal attending trials.
“He’s going overseas this week… to Portugal. They’ll have a look at him there and let him train for about three weeks, which is good. It’s before the start of the season but hopefully, please God, he makes it,” Hunt told the media at the PSL awards on Monday.
The newly crowned PSL’s Young Player of the year has scored 10 goals in 27 league matches for the past two seasons.
Mahlambi is likely to join Bongani Zungu who moved to Portugal where he is slowly becoming a household name in the Premeira Liga.
