Rayon Sports midfielder Pierrot Kwizera (pictured left) was Sunday crowned the 2016/17 Rwandan Premier League most valuable player at a gala night in Kigali.

Kwizera, 26, retained the gong for the second season running after warding off close competition from the league’s top scorer Danny Usengemana of Police FC and Musanze FC’s Wai Yeka.

He ascribed the “huge honor” to his fellow teammates and the coaching staff at the Nyanza based side.

“It’s a huge honor to be chosen among the best. I attribute this award for the second year running after he won the same category in the first edition,” the Burundian said in his acceptance speech.

For his troubles, the former Simba SC man pocketed one million Rwandan Francs.

Irambona Massoud Djuma, the Rayon’s coach, who guided them to this year’s title, bagged the coach of the year award. He took home Rwf 750,000 prize money.

The golden boot award went to Usengemana, who has since signed for Tanzania Premier League newbies Singida United. The Amavubi international scored 19 goals for the Blues to top the chat and grab Rwf 500,000 prize money.

Usengemana’s fellow international and Rayon’s keeper Eric Ndayishimiye for the second season on the trot clinched the golden glove award which came with Rwf 400,000 reward.

Police FC prodigy Biiramahire Abdey was named promising player – beating Nsengiyumva Moustapha of Rayon and Marines FC’s Usabimana Olivier to pocket Rwf 500,000.
