Police FC vs AS Kigali 3:30pm
APR FC vs Marines FC
AS Kigali and Police FC, two teams in the race for the 2015/06 national football league title face-off today at Kicukiro stadium, hoping to finish the first round of the season on a high.
Separated by four points in fourth and fifth positions respectively, hosts Police are on 24 points, eight behind leaders Rayon Sports and Mukura while AS Kigali are fourth with 28 from 13 matches.
Having been beaten by Marines in their last league outing and lost to Congo’s Vita Club Mokanda in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup, Andre Cassa Mbungo’s Police have lost one and drawn six games in the league before today.
“There are many teams in contention for the league title but our aim is to be ready for every game. We want to make good progress and we still have hope for a good end to the season,” Mbungo said
The former AS Kigali coach further noted that, “It is not going to be easy against AS Kigali, who are a good side and one of the teams in the race for the title.”
AS Kigali coach Eric Nshimiyimana, whose team has won 8, drawn 4 and lost once in the league this season, admits his team may be the surprise package among the leading title contenders, but they will not take the foot off the pedal.
“All the teams are focused to finish as high as possible in the league, so we are looking forward to winning two games before the end of the league first round. Getting three points on Sunday is crucial in our bid to stay in the race,” noted the former Amavubi captain and coach.
Elsewhere, champions APR will go into their match against Marines at Kigali Regional Stadium hoping for a routine three points.
The military side are fresh from being eliminated from the CAF Champions League after bowing out to Tanzania’s Young Africans 4-2 on aggregate.
