Arthur Masuaku scored a late freekick to salvage a 1-1 draw against Harambee Stars in a friendly match played at the Estadio de Santa Ana in Madrid, Spain on Saturday evening.
Micheal Olunga’s left foot drive put the Kenyans in front on 25 minutes with an assist from Ayub Timbe who had done well to beat two DR Congo
The Leopards reacted with aggressive attacks trying to find the equalising goal but the Kenyan defense stood firm to maintain a 1-0 halftime lead.
Patrick Matasi gave away a penalty in the 49th minute after he was adjudged to have fouled DR Congo’s Paul-José M’Poku in the box but the Keeper redeemed himself by saving the resultant penalty.
Micheal Olunga missed two golden opportunities to get his brace but he couldn’t connect well to hit the the back of the net.
Kenya would eventually rue those missed chances, Arthur Masuaku’s low drive from a freekick in the 86th minute freekick slipped through the arms of Matasi.
Both coaches perhaps happy to settle for a point but Kenya will definitely get more out of the game given the kind of opposition they faced as they prepare to go to Egypt.
