The Black Stars of Ghana will come up against pre-tournament favorites Portigal in a Group H opener of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup on Thursday. This big match is billed for the Stadium 974 in Doha.
Ghana missed out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but they are back on the big stage this time around. Led by Otto Addo as the coach, the West African Nations believe they have the weaponry needed to dispatch the Portuguese.
Meanwhile, Fernando Santos’s Portugal are tipped to go all the way in Qatar and their first assignment will be to face a plucky Ghana team.
This will be the second meeting between the teams after they had earlier faced off in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed the winner in a 2-1 triumph 10 minutes from time after John Boye’s own goal on the half-hour mark was cancelled out by Asamoah Gyan’s equaliser.
Fresh off the back of a 4-0 victory over Nigeria last Thursday, Portugal now go in search of yet another dominant display against African opponents.
