Marketing and television group at the two-day African Football Symposium in Rabat, Morocco has proposed hosting some of the African Cup of Nations editions outside the continent.

This will help optimize revenue for the proposed 24-team AFCON, according to its proponents. The tournament will also enjoy good football facilities found in more advanced countries like China, Dubai among others.

The group also proposes 3 to 4 teams from outside the continent to be invited to grace the AFCON to broaden viewership.

“It’s an avenue for Africa to make a lot of money,” Mark Gleason, South African respected African journalist, who presented the session, said.

Those against the idea argue AFCON must remain for Africa and the organizers must work round the clock to restore it glory so that it can attract sponsorships.

They also hold that the proposed expansion should stay until such a time African countries will able to comfortably host it.

The proposal among others will be subjected to a vote for adoption or rejection tomorrow during the CAF’s Executive Committee meeting.
