Cape Town City have hired Ben McCarthy as head coach just three days after former coach Eric Tinkler sudden resignation.
The new coach was unveiled Tuesday to players and according to City owner John Comitis, he is expected to pick the momentum that the club has picked in Premier Soccer League.
“The new coach will be of the same mind (as Tinkler) in terms of the type of players we have purchased and the way Cape Town City wants to play.
“The coach we select will pick up the momentum we have created. With the homework I have done‚ I believe I have possibly found a gem.”he told Sport24
McCarthy who is South Africa’s most decorated player and will be given his first role as head coach after completing his UEFA A coaching licence and will become one of the PSL’s most high-profile coaches.
He plied his trade in Europe as a player becoming the only South African to date to win a Champions League medal.
Former coach Tinkler, who signed a three-year contract with City at the start of last season, helped the club finish third on the log in his first season.
He also delivered the 2016/17 Telkom Knockout Cup in December 2016, beating Matsatsantsa in the final and has now joined Supersport United.
