Although they were shocked by an early goal from their opponent’s side,
the semiautonomous Somali regional state of puntland clinched a great
victory after defeating Jubbaland state rivals 5-3 on penalties to lift
the country’s first ever Inter-state football competition on Tuesday.
Jubbaland made huge celebrations in the 4th minute of the match when Fua’d
Mohamed Yusuf [No 10] scored a beautiful goal to give his side a very
early lead of the final match which saw thousands of spectators.
The Puntland side made successive attacks on their opponent’s goal and in
the 35th minute of the match they made their equalizing goal from Farah
Dahir Farah [No 7].
None of the teams was able to win during the normal time that it takes to
play a football match plus the extra time as the match ended up in
stalemate.
International football referee Hassan Mohamed Haji had officiated the
match which was termed as the most-competed match since the event was
inaugurated nearly two weeks ago.
However, Puntland team was crowned the winners of Somalia’s first
Inter-state football tournament after defeating Jubbaland 5-3 on
penalties.
The president of the federal republic of Somalia Prof. Hassan Sheik
Mahmoud who came to the stadium at the invitation from Somali FA was
greeted and welcomed to the stadium by Somali Football Federation senior
vice president, Ali Abdi Mohamed along with other SFF officials.
The president of the federal republic was very pleased to present the
trophy to the winning team and announce the successful conclusion of the
first Inter-state football tournament in Somalia.
President Hassan Sheik Mahmoud, was accompanied by his Prime Minister Omar
Abdirashid Ali, the minister for youth and sport Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan
and key other government officials.
