Rayon Sports, one of the most supported clubs in Rwanda are set to hold their maiden rememberance event in honour of their former players, staff and fans killed during the 1994 Genocide.
The East African giants lost over 27 players and staff and thousands of fans during the 100-days of killings and they will be using the event as part of 23rd Anniversary of the Genocide aganist the Tusti that is being marked by the county.
According to the club secretary general Oliver Gakwaya, the event will be held between the hundreds days of morning from April 7 to July 3 at a yet to be established venue.
“We are still updating the list of the (Rayon Sports associated) victims, what we have got so far isn’t the final list because there are many of our staff that lost their lives and once we are done with that, that’s when we shall sit down and set a date but it will be during these 100 days of remembrance,” said Gakwaya as quoted Times Sport in an interview earlier this week.
Previously, Rayon Sports players and officials would visit Genocide memorial sites to pay their respects but now they want to organise an event to remember their own.
