Police FC 1-0 AS Kigali
APR FC 0-0 Marines FC
Defending champions APR saw their winning streak halted after a 0-0 draw against Marines in the National Football League on Sunday afternoon at Kigali Regional Stadium.
Marines contained Nizar Khanfir’s team in first half, but failed to find the back of the net. The draw leaves APR in third place with 31 points, one behind leaders Rayon Sports and second-placed Mukura Victory Sports.
Although APR was still recovering from a loss to Young Africans in CAF Champions League, they dominated ball possession in the second half but Marines defended so well to keep APR strikers at bay.
APR have won 9, drawn 4 and lost one in 14 matches, while Marines remain in 11th position with 16 points after four wins, four draws and five losses.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Police FC beat visitors AS Kigali 1-0 to stay on course, thanks to the 69th minute goal from striker Dany Usengimana.
Andre Casa Mbungo’s team remains in fifth position with 27 points, but with one game in hand against Etincelles on April, 6 at Umuganda Stadium. AS Kigali remains in fourth position with 28 points and one game in hand against APR.
“It was a very tough game. It was not easy to score against AS Kigali because they are strong in midfield, but we tried to use the wings through Danny Usengimana,” Mbungo said after the game.
His counterpart Eric Nshimiyimana said that his boys played well, but lacked ruthlessness in the final third.
