A Gentil Kambale brace inspired Rayon Sport of Rwanda to a hard fought 2-1 win over exciting Adama City from Ethiopia in an exciting match played at the Amahoro Stadium in the ongoing Cecafa Kagame cup in Rwanda.
Kambale started the game on the bench but was to be the man to pile misery on Adama after he came in for Leo Uwambazimana opening his account in the 58th minute with a fine finish after a sublime Karim Nizigivimana cross as the crowd went into ruptures.
Rayon Sport pilled more pressure and on the 79th minute red hot Kambale notched his second of the game to give the Rwandese side added impetus as Adama who played some slick football failed to utilise their chances.
Despite being two goals down Adama City continued fighting relentlessly as they impressed with their tiki taka football and in the stroke fo full time Desaleny Debesh capitalized on a defensive error by Rayon to score but it was a goal too late despite mounting attack after attack in Rayon’s Sports defence Adama could not recover in time as Rayon collected all the important three points.
“It was a nice game. Rayon Sport is the best team and we tried our best. It is good competition for us and we shall try to do our best in the next game,” explained Ashenafi Bekele, head coach Adama City.
Rayon Sport has four points in group A table standings tied on points with leaders Azam who have a better goal difference.
Adama City will play their second game of the tournament against Zanzibar’s Kikosi Maalum cha Kuzuia Magendo (KMKM) on Tuesday at 3pm at the Kigali Regional stadium.
Rayon Sport face KMKM on Thursday at 5pm at the same stadium in their third group fixture having drawn against Azam in a goalless draw on Friday.
