Rayon Sports of Rwanda will face Nigeria’s Rivers United in the 2017 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup playoffs.
The draws for the penultimate round before groups phase were conducted on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt.
Rayon Sports qualified following FIFA, the world’s football governing body, ban on FEMAFOOT, the Malian Football Federation for government interference.
Onze Créateurs de Niaréla who had eliminated Rayon in 1-0 aggregate in the first round was therefore therefore automatically disqualified.
Rayon will be facing River United who were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Al-Merrickh of Sudan.
River United had won 3-0 in their first leg but could not maintain a clear sheet in the second leg – losing 4-0 in Omndurman.
It will be the first time both sides face-off at the continental level.
The first match will be played away in Nigeria on the weekend of April 7-9 before the return leg on the weekend of April 14-16 in Kigali.
In a mother news, Rayon Sports club management has revealed they will request CAF to reschedule the dates since they fall within the commemoration period of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
