Rwanda champions Rayon Sports have banned their captain Ndayishimiye Jean Luc “Bakame” for feigning injury and calling for coach’s head.
Rayon’s management took the decision Saturday after in emerged that the goalkeeper was fit as fiddle but refused to travel for a league match against Musanze at Ubworoherane Stadium, in Northern Province on Friday.
Bakame, who is also the assistant captain of the national team, Amavubi, was secretly recorded on phone admitting that he lied about his fitness to coach Ivan Minneart.
He also called on the Belgian gaffer to “go.”
“They are going to be beaten; I lied to the coach that I’m injured, but I don’t have any problem, the coach has to go,” the former APR custodian said in the widely circulated audio.
The 30-year-old has since admitted as true the content of the recording and apologized to fans and the entire team.
Burundian Pierrot Kwizera, who was Bakame’s deputy, has been elevated to full captain.
Rayon failed to win the game against Musanze after being held to a draw.
In his last duty for the Kigali-based side a week ago at Kigali Stadium, Bakame shipped in two goals as they fell 2-1 to Amagaju – prompting angry reactions from fans who called for Ivan’s sacking.
The keeper blamed the coach’s refusal to use “Juju”, black magic, for the loss, “we came empty handed,” he said adding that “we will use it when he’s fired.”
