Kenyan Football Coaches Association (KEFOCA)chairman Ricky Solomon has called for further reduction on the foreign players quota in the Kenya Premier League.
In an interview with a section of local press,Solomom has urged KPL to allow a maximum of three foreign players instead of current five players inorder to nurture more Kenyan players.
“I have said it before; too many foreigners add no value to the league. I don’t think we gain a lot from it and on the contrary, we only deny our very youngsters the chance to earn a living.
“The football management should focus energies in developing our players by giving them a chance and lowering the quota of foreigners in our teams,” he said.
In 2015 during a KPL Governing Council meeting held in July, clubs chairmen expressed concern with the number of foreigners in the local league vis-a-vis local players.
This made the league to trim the influx of foreigners in the local league where they reduced the number from seven to current five after feeling that it was doing more harm than good to the development of local talent.
The SportPesa sponsored league has proved to be an attractive venture for players especially from Uganda who have formed large number of foreignors. This has been contributed by the quest for Kenyan clubs to claim bragging rights in Africa.
