Sergio Gomez’s back heel set Spain motion with the first goal in the 10th before doubling the lead with his brace in the 31st minute.
Rhian Brewster pulled one back for England in the 44th minute to herald the remarkable comeback after the interval.
Morgan Gibbs White restored parity in the 58th minute with Philip Foden sending them into the lead for the first time with the third in the 69th minute.
Marc Guehi stretched the lead further with the fourth six minutes to regulation time before Foden, who was named player of the tournament bagged his brace in the 88th minute for a 5-2 final score.
England are also the reigning U20 FIFA World Cup making them the first country to achieve that feat in the same year.
Earlier, Brazil beat Mali in the third place playoff to take home the bronze.
