Harambee Starlets’ journey in the Rio Olympic 2016 qualifier came to an end on Sunday when they lost by a solitary goal to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the return leg match at Machakos County Stadium.
The visitors had to wait until the half hour mark when Rhoda Mulauzi scored from 20 yards beating Kenyan goalkeeper Pauline Atieno all ends up.
The match was superbly handled by Tunisia referees Bedoui Ghabi, Haced Amel and Hendaoui Chefia.
The Kenyans played a lackluster game in the first half only to raise their game in the second half where they pinned their visitors in their own half.
The Kenyans were hindered by Banyana Banyana’s strategy of using long balls.
Head coach David Ouma was delighted with his players’ display especially in the second half adding that he was proud of the girls despite being eliminated.
Kenya, who bundled out Botswana in the first round, were knocked out by Banyana Banyana on a 2-0 goal aggregate after losing with a similar scoreline in the first leg played away in South Africa on Sunday.
