SportPesa Premier League giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have been invited to play in the Governor’s Cup scheduled for June 1 at Nyayo Stadium.
Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero is behind the encounter which is aimed at bringing the fans of the two most supported teams in Kenya together to promote peace and help fight hooliganism.
“We have received the invitation, but we are yet to decide on it with the Coach and as management. We will sit down and deliberate on it further.” Acting Secretary General of Gor Mahia Ronald Ngala said.
The winner of the match will walk away with a trophy plus six hundred thousand Kenyan shillings while runner up will pocket four hundred thousand.
Kidero is not new to the two teams. He has helped house Gor Mahia Coach in the past, and on countless occasions came to their aid financially when the team had no sponsor. Same he has done to “Ingwe” whom he helped purchase a team bus besides other generous contributions.
The match present “K’OGALO” with an opportunity to revenge their 1-0 loss to Leopards in the “Mashemeji Derby” earlier this season.
A new joint sponsor for both Gor and Leopards “Power Gold” is expected to make an appearance on that day.
