All roads will on wednesday lead to the sugar producing town of Awendo along the Kisii -Mwanza highway where an expected titanic clash pitting League defending champions Gor Mahia against millers Sony Sugar .

The match anticipated sportpesa premier league clash between the two teams will be played on Wednesday 3rd August at the awendo green stadium starting at 3pm

This is a match that attracts a huge crowd and according to residents of awendo town in the south western part of Kenya,this is the match they have been waiting for.

The match draws fans from within the county and also from the neighbouring Tanzania which is just 20kms away .some move from as far as Kisii,Homabay,Kisumu ,Siaya etc.

The presence of the Green army travelling fans definitely will be felt on the match day

Getting maximum points at awendo had been a tall order for Kogallo but they have been on the upper hand in recent years due to their fine form.

According to statistics obtained by soka25east ,Gor Mahia has won 8 of their last 10 matches while the remaining two matches have ended in draws .

The last time the two teams met was in Nairobi in the first leg of the match with Gor Mahia winning 1-0

Four players in the Sony team have participated in several matches involving the two teams namely the immediate former captain and now second assistant coach/player Sylvester Wanyama,the elder brother of Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama,Kevin Oluoch who returned after a stint with Gor ,Frederick Onyango who moved to Tusker before rerurning and veteran Marwa Chamberi

Most fans in awendo call Gor Mahia their bigger brother due to the resemblance in the Jersey colour and also the fact that they both draw their origin from the larger South Nyanza part of Kenya,in fact SoNy means South Nyanza.

With a good number of fans leaning towards the visitors,a section of die hard fans are promising real fireworks on wednesday.

According to Sony Sugar chairman Paul Orato,the team is in fine form and ready to shock the defending champions .

“The players are psyched up and have been training for this match,we are very confident of winning the match” Orato said

The match will be played at 3pm and the gate charges will be a flat rate of Ksh 300.

Sony Sugar are at the 12th position with 23 points while Gor Mahia are secone with 34 points three behind leaders Tusker
