Robert Matano has returned to eleven-time Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker for a second stint as their Head Coach.
The former AFC Leopards coach was unveiled on Tuesday replacing Ugandan Sam Timbe in a colorful ceremony that was held at the club offices in Ruaraka.
The experienced coach who will be in his second stint at the brewers was first hired in 2012 and won the KPL trophy with the side that year.
Matano who came alongside his assistant coach Charles Okere will be a major coaching boost for Tusker who are set to face Wazito in a league match on Wednesday at Camp Toyoyo as they seek to turn round their fortunes before mid-season.
“My history in KPL is interesting, I’ve always picked teams from low ranks to title contention. I went to Leopards when they were facing relegation, I went to a struggling Ulinzi Stars and lifted them, same as World Hope and Bidco. I know how to fix things with time,”Matano told reporters.
The 54-year old former Hakati FC player, has also managed Pumwani Sportiff, Kenya Pipeline, Shamako Babes, Standard Bank, Re-Union, Bayer East Africa, Timsales, Kimbo, Green Berets, Gor Mahia, World Hope (now Nairobi City Stars), Sofapaka AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars.
Tusker failed to claim valuable points on Sunday as they were beaten 3-1 by Zoo FC in a match day 11 encounter of the SportPesa Premier League played at Kericho Green Stadium.
The Brewers are sitting 15th on the league standings with 10 points, nine behind league leaders Gor Mahia.
